Big Changes Are Coming To Givenchy

Matthew Williams: Givenchy's New Creative Director

If you haven’t heard, former 1017 ALYX 9SM designer, Matthew M. Williams is French luxury house, Givenchy’s newest Creative Director. The news has been confirmed by Givenchy on their Instagram page. The 34-year old Californian based designer is set to succeed previous Director, Clare Waight Keller, whom served the brand from 2017 when Riccardo Tisci left for Burberry then.

Following Virgil Abloh’s hiring at Louis Vuitton, it came to no surprise that the LVMH brought Abloh’s Been-Thrill co-founder and personal friend to the table. Williams is not new to the LVMH scene as he has partnered with Dior’s Kim Jones in the release of their accessories that utilizes his technical rollercoaster buckles also featured in pieces from ALYX.

“I am extremely honored to join the House of Givenchy,” Williams said in a statement. “I am looking forward to working together with its ateliers and teams, to move it into a new era, based on modernity and inclusivity. In these unprecedented times for the world, I want to send a message of hope, together with my community and colleagues, and intend to contribute towards positive change.”

Change is coming for Givenchy and it looks like the brand is going to emerge from the COVID-19 confinement with not just new social distancing rules but also a new look. This is huge news and we’re very excited to see which direction the designer is going to take the brand in!
