Face masks are the new must-have accessories
DON'T forget your face masks before leaving the house
It’s the weekend. You’ve had a long and tiring week and deserve a casual day out. You have an appointment in about an hour. You’re all dressed up, you grab your bag, phone and wallet and leave the house and suddenly stop. What are you forgetting?
That’s right, you’ve left your mask on the desk. In today’s world, who knows what’ll happen if you forget your face masks. All it takes is one cough from the person sitting opposite you and you’re a carrier. There’s a reason why the BTS, the local 7/11 amongst many other places have imposed a rule of having face masks on your face at all times. No face mask equals a denied entry. Face masks are now a necessity that you should be having with you at all times, if not for your own and other people’s safety, then be it for avoiding the potential trouble that comes your way with not having one.
In the past 4-5 months, fashion and sports brands have not turned a blind eye to this matter. With brands such as Off-White and Bape seeing a doubling, if not tripling of their resale prices, the demand for the designer type of facemasks are as high as ever. New balance seems to be the first sports brand to begin production of masks as early (or late??) as the end of March in response to the shortage of protective equipment across the USA. By late April, the Boston based company was putting out approximately 100,000 units per week between their 2 active factories.
On the other end of the spectrum, pictures of custom Louis Vuitton and Celine masks have surfaced on the web, showing how fast high-end brands have caught on to the evolving trend. If you haven’t heard, the LVMH and Kering group are currently producing facemasks exclusively for the medical community. The big question that needs to be answered is: how long would it take before these companies join forces with pharmaceutical companies and begin pumping out medical grade masks. Should that day come, we won’t be at all surprised if these masks end up in the resell market.
Will the world eventually see the demand for face masks match those with sneakers? We’ll be looking to keep track with the trends for the upcoming months and perhaps years. Masks are not just a must have accessory, but a literally a MUST-HAVE to help avoid, like, dying from the coronavirus or other diseases. We know for sure that this trend should definitely be encouraged, at least for the near future.
