The biggest talk of the week in the fashion industry took place from Wednesday the 9th of September; Kim Jones was appointed as the new Fendi's women's artistic director. This news was just as big as when Matthew Williams announced that he will be moving to Givenchy. His upcoming position at Fendi was previously held by the legendary late Karl Lagerfeld for over 54 years (who started in 1965) in addition to working for Chanel until his death last year in February.

The 46-year-old fashion designer will have an immense role to fill as he will also be responsible for designing haute couture and fur collections (which Fendi was initially famous for), as well as women's wear, all of which lie in unfamiliar territory. If you're not familiar with Jones, you may be aware of his work. The recent Air Dior Jordans? Yes, that was all him. The famous Louis Vuitton x Supreme collaboration? That was also him. The famous Dior oblique B23 sneakers that look as if a pair of converses grace by god? Jones, Jones, Jones. It goes to show how versatile and adaptive the English designer is in setting up new trends and pushing boundaries, which he has shown during his recent time at Dior, where single-handedly transformed the brand and made it appeal more to younger consumers.

Jones' CV is a very long and extensive one that could take ages to go through. Let's just leave it with the fact that his designs and pieces have been worn by world-class celebrities such as; ASAP Rocky, Rami Malek, Robert Pattinson, David Beckham, and K-pop hit group, BTS.

Silvia Venturini Fendi, the only remaining Fendi family at the brand, extended her warmest welcome to Jones during the press release on Wednesday. Venturini grew up watching Lagerfeld and was forced to step into his role after his death in 2019. Despite his new role at Fendi, Jones will still keep his current position at Dior Men in Paris. Similar to Lagerfeld, Jones will be juggling two incredible roles at once. We may perhaps see another legend akin to Lagerfeld being born in the process.

Bernard Arnault, the chairman and CEO of the LVMH group, which owns both Dior and Fendi, says that Jones has "great talent, and has continuously proven his ability to adapt to the codes and heritage of LVMH houses while revisiting them with modernity and audacity." Jones' first Fendi show will take place at Milan Fashion week scheduled for next February. Let's see what he's got in store for us! At the same time, we're anxious to know which designer is going to make the next 'move' (pun intended). Let us know your thoughts!
